Scrap Metal Show Offs: June 2011

So, it's been a long time coming, but I finally grabbed some photos to add to the Scrap Metal Show Offs page. If you would like to send in your photo's, yard tickets, or scrap projects, send them to ScrapMetalShowOffs@gmail.com and they may be included in the July 2011 page! I hope to see this expand into something more official, or possibly competitive. But for now its just for fun!

Here they are, in no official order:

Coming from Nate from Ocala, Florida: $480 of #1 copper pulled from old AC units and some demo projects.
That's actually about 4 to 5 months of tearing apart old a/c units and what not. A buddy got ahold of some gutter from his boss, and I helped him demo a couple properties. just started a stock pile of brass last week and already got a good lick....

Craig C. from Milwaukee, Wisconsin: A nice truck of sorted aluminum (some cast, and looks like an alloy wheel), sorted copper wire, and clean brass! Great take!

Assorted faucets, scrap grill valves, and water heater valves

  1. Hello:

I have not sdtarted scrapping yet, but I have a large barn that has been sitting empty and I have been wodnering what to do with it, now I know. Your site has really gotten me kind of excited about going out and starting to scrap. A question on PC boards though, once yuou cut the gold fingers off are they still able to be sold as high grade pc boards?

  2. It's a good idea and learn about some of the most in demand scrap metals, so that you can start identifying the best scrap metal products that you can use for recycling and to make money.

  4. i was told by a bulk buyer that if you cut the gold fingers off the fingerboards/daughterboards/pci cards it drops their value by around 75% based on todays market/the numbers he told me. as to which comes out better, i can not say..i havent done the math on what the gold fingers weigh individually/bring versus the loss in bulk weight by separating it from the rest of the board..

  5. I have said before that cutting the golf fingers off of the boards doesn't change the value, but have since learned otherwise. The board's prices will be downgraded by cutting off the fingers, especially you are selling in bulk, but the gold finger's value will go up x7.

Thanks for the comment mr. sam. I would say you are best to leave the gold fingers on the board, and sell them whole. This may be a net loss in revenue depending on the buyer (just a few cents per board) but an overall gain by saving time/labour, ect.

    Best of luck!
