The Statue Of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a beautiful symbol of out countries independence. It was gift given to us by the French after the Civil War. It was in support of the freedom granted to all citizens in the united states that we accepted and erected the statue.

What many people do not know, however, is that the sculpture is made of copper with steel frame. When copper oxidizes ("rusts"), it turns green; thus Lady Liberty has come to wear a suggestive jade green!

There are 60,000 pounds of copper and 250,000 pounds of steel in the statue of liberty, meaning the metal value of the lady is $258,415.18. It's terrible to think of the scrap value, but I figured that would give a little perspective!
